Suggested Itinerary: History on the Hudson
Day 1: Arrival into a New York airport and transfer
to your Westchester hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Begin your discovery of the Historic Hudson
Valley with a visit to the restored colonial plantation of Philipsburg
Manor. Later visit the Old Dutch Church and Cemetery in Sleepy Hollow,
final resting place of many early Dutch settlers, and tour Sunnyside,
home of writer Washington Irving.
Day 3: Head north along the Hudson to Hyde Park,
lifetime home of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Visit the grounds and museum which
chronicles the lives of President and Mrs. Roosevelt. You'll have time
to browse the picturesque artists' town of Rhinebeck and to tour the Vanderbilt
Mansion and grounds, overlooking the Hudson before returning to Westchester
for overnight.
Day 4: Closer to home today, visit the Rockefeller
Mansion at Kijkuit or the Victorian Mansion of railroad magnate Jay Gould
at Lyndhurst. Later view the splendid Chagall and Matisse windows at the
Union Church of Pocantico Hills.
Day 5: Drive the short distance south to Manhattan
to visit Ellis Island and learn more about America's recent immigrants,
at the Museum of immigration. Later you will have time to see the famous
New York sights including the Statue of Liberty, Empire State, Times Square,
Central Park and Ground Zero.
Day 6: Free time for shopping in one of the many
local malls or discount outlets prior to transferring to your NY airport
for the homebound flight.
